Add this one to the list of homebrew disasters:

I was brewing my second batch of Zainasheff's North of the Border Vienna (my favorite). The wort was just coming to a boil, so I took my cell phone out of my pocket to check the time and... plop... it slipped out of my Starsan soaked hands and right into the pot. Probably took me 3-5 minutes to fish it out, so the phone was a total loss (along with my family pictures, contacts, and downloads of Brew Strong, The Jamil Show, the Session, and that other show). At this point, my concern is whether the temperature and contact time with the wort might have extracted anything from the phone that could be dangerous to consume in the finished beer... thoughts? All of the components seem to be intact, so I don't have any reason to suspect that the battery would have leached its contents. Anything else in there that might be dangerous?

My wife says I should call this one "Android Lager". I'm in favor of "Beer for the Abso-f**king-lute Idiot."

Thanks...

Oh man that sucks.

I don't think you have to worry about your beer being polluted.

Check with your phone co. A lot of the smart phones automatically back up contacts etc to the cloud. They might be able to restore on the new phone. Same for pics. Also, it's possible that you were storing pictures on an card internal to the phone. That card will be waterproof and readable, if that's the case.

Thanks Passedpawn! Yes, the data card was usable, but pictures were on the phone's memory and not the card. My phone has to be backed up manually; hadn't done that in a couple of months, so no major losses, but still a pain.
Glad to know the beer will be drinkable! Pitched onto the yeast cake from a Munich Helles that turned out REALLY nice, so I have high hopes for this batch.
