I have one of those stick on temp strips, is there something better and more accurate to measure temp inside the carboy? Will a floating thermometer work?
I use the stick on aquarium thermometer with no problems. Since glass conducts heat very well, the temp on the outside of the glass will be the same as the temp of the beer in the carboy. personally, I woudn't worry with a floating thermometer, becuase it would be hard to read within the carboy and also presents an oppurtunity for infection.
There was another thread on this a couple days ago. Two experiments were conducted and both concluded that the bulk temperature and the temperature on the outside were the same.
More accurate can be as easy as taping the probe of a digital thermometer to the side, that's what I do.
