I went to the LHBS today and they were out of corn sugar. I need to keg a batch of Apfelwein ( I need the yeast slurry for another recipe ) and I want to carb it with sugar. Can I use table sugar? If so how much? It's supposed to be 3/4 cup of cron sugar usually.

Also make sure that you mix it well in the bucket with a spoon. Simply letting the wort rack-mix may not be enough. I recently bottled with table sugar and it sunk right to the bottom and refused to mix without a good stir.
Edit: Palmer says 3.7oz, but Pilgarlic is right in suggesting the calculator. Amount depends on desired CO2 which is often dependent on the type of beer. Fortunately, 3.7oz will land in the middle of the suggested carbonation for that particular beer.

I use it all the time, no problems. IMHO corn sugar is just another way for LHS to get your money.

There will be absolutely no difference using corn sugar over table sugar. I've used both and you can't even tell which is which.

i've only done one bottling so far, but used table sugar and had no probs with it. I added sugar to each bottle and then shook the bottle to mix it up. so far every bottle i've opened have been nicely carb. i dunno how it will go if u mix it up all at once since one person said it all sank to the bottom.

I dissolve the sugar in a cup of boiling water first, then arrange my siphon hose along the bottom of the bottling buckets wall so it makes a gentle whirlpool. Once i have an inch or so of beer in the bucket I add the sugar water near the end of the siphon hose.

I have used it once and it was so much the same I honestly cannot remember which batch I used it in. Absolutely no difference in taste. I suggest using the calculator also ( it helped me a lot) and do as was posted. Mix the priming sugar with one cup of water and boil it until it turns clear....pour that into your bottling bucket ( make sure spigot is closed lol) and rack the beer on top of that. No real need to cool it down first or really to even stir if you set the hose to swirl the beer around the bucket. Then bottle using revvys method...easy as pie.

Do you boil it first? I bring the sugar to a boil with 2 cups water, cool it down then rack on top of it. I NEVER stir it and I've never had a problem. Whether table sugar or corn.

Yes...I boil it. It's more of a matter of being safe. Better to have a well-distributed carbonation than a closet full of bombs.

I wouldn't want to risk stirring. I've never had an issue just racking on top causing the entire bucket to quietly swirl. If stirring works for you great, but it'll get plenty mixed without it.

I will second both using cane sugar and racking on top without stirring as having worked for me for many, many batches. Works just fine.
