Have a porter thats been bottle conditioning for 2 weeks, just tried it and the carbonation is very weak. Should I be concerned, and any ideas of things to do to try to help the situation.
Is there something wrong? Just that you're impatient.
The 3 weeks at 70 degrees, that we recommend is the minimum time it takes for average gravity beers to carbonate and condition. Higher grav beers take longer.
Stouts and porters have taken me between 6 and 8 weeks to carb up..I have a 1.090 Belgian strong that took three months to carb up.
Temp and gravity are the two factors that contribute to the time it takes to carb beer. But if a beer's not ready yet, or seems low carbed, and you added the right amount of sugar to it, then it's not stalled, it's just not time yet.
Everything you need to know about carbing and conditioning, can be found hereOf Patience and Bottle Conditioning. With emphasis on the word, "patience."
Give them at least another week....but realize it could be more.
I've been on here just a short time. This seems to be the answer to every question I have......"patience." Hahaha. Bottled my first brew 6 days ago. The last 12 ounce bottle was capped with the last 4 ounces in the bucket. Couldn't help myself. Opened it tonight & heard the psssssst. Nice sound so I know it's working. Now I can wait another 2 or 3 weeks. "patience."
i usually try one at 10 days, 14 days, then 21 days. have definately learned patients on here. i am jonesing for a brew but can wait for the carbonation to have a great beer instead of a good beer.
Patience, Hell!!! I want to drink something. But seriously, I have 5 beers left from my old batch, one batch ready to bottle, and a kit ready to brew. I really need to build my pipeline, but football is over for the season and spring isn't here yet, so the stress on my supply will ease a bit.
