I just purchased some malt for my first Kolsch. I'm doing some version of this recipe, AHA Killer Kolsch , which calls for Pilsner Malt

But I purchased this (BEST Caramel Pils) ... which I think is carapils by another name. and that's what it's marked as on the bag actually.

So now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I should have purchased this (BEST Pilsen )

Would someone mind confirming for me what I think I know at this point that being that I purchased the wrong malt and there's nothing I can do but buy the right one — or maybe I'm wrong and it's OK to use - here's hoping

:(

Caramel Pils aka Carapils is a Caramel Malt, not a base malt! You definitely have the wrong one.
The good news is that carapils is used in a lot of other recipes, just not the one you are trying to brew. Good luck!

The last malt, the BEST Pilsen, is the malt you are looking for.

Pilsen is the base malt you were looking for. Caramel Pils is a complimentary, not foundational, piece for head retention and a little sweetness (among other things). Notice on the "use" tab that it's not recommended as being 100% of the base malt. Sorry to say you'll want to get that pilsen.
