Hi every one I just filtered a beer with a 1 micron filter and some sediment and yeast cake is stuck in it and I can't wash it out. I am soaking in star dan so it won't get worse. And ideas and getting that sucker clean. I don't want to buy a new one. Is got a plastic cage around the filter so I can't rally scrub it.

Hi. Without knowing anything at all about your filter (except you can't scrub it,) I'd guess the only way to clean it will be to back-flush it under enough pressure to dislodge the gunk that's there. Ed

Typical filter progression is 5.0 then 1.0 then 0.5 micron.

The wound filters are a B!tch to clean, even when backwashing. Some filters can be autoclaved after removing the bulk of the debris. Most of us buy those very fine filters in 10 packs... for a reason.

I just live with some cloudiness. Sets us apart from the overly clear commercial swill. ;)

I also soaked mine in starsan but ended up just tossing it.. I have an advertised reusable one which has the plastic webbing like you describe but I never used it... I dont bother filtering anymore since its a lot of effort with minimal cosmetic gain vs cold crashing.. That may change when time becomes more of a factor with the nanobrewery...

BTW these filters are as little as $1 each in bulk packs of 50 on ebay with free shipping... that would be my suggestion.

you cannot really use water to clean the filter, you need air... hpa. (or co2 will work)
