Hey everyone, I am hoping to start building my panel over Spring Brewk. :drunk: I have picked one of PJ's that has...

5500 watt HLT
2000 watt RIMS
5500 watt HLT

Three PID's and a timer. I would include a diagram, but I don't want to search for it because I have the hard copy here with me. I intend to lose the HLT, and I thought that I would lose the timer too, but then it occured to me that I don't really know what the timer can do, so who can tell me why I should keep the timer. I already have my smart phone in my pocket. How is the timer an improvement.

Now. Canadian question. Is there a place in Canada to get all of the stuff that one can find at ebrewsupply.com, and Auberins.com? What are the prices like?

Thanks

Timer is just a timer. There's no difference between using a kitchen timer or your phone besides it being built-in. No idea on Canadian sourcing.

Canadian sourcing just means suck it up and pay the shipping. Even Kal bought most of his stuff state side. Ebay, Amazon, and the like. Ship to the border if you're close. Auber shipping isn't that bad. I've hunted for reliable sources. There is NOTHING online from Canada. It's our curse. I source a lot from ebay and pay sucky shipping/duty/exchange on the rest.

And the panel mount timer is just to make the brewery more streamlined. It has advantage over your iPhone other than bling and more opportunity for flashing lights, alarms, and switches.

Kind if like the PID. You could just have an on/off switch and adjust temps as necessary but that kind of kills the point of the fancy control panel. . .

This guy is in Canada and build my panel, great dude... http://www.distillerycontrols.com/

I live about 10 minutes from the Niagara falls border But I dont know how much cheaper it would be even if someone was close if they had to pay Duty...

Thanks for the replies all. I had this funny feeling that I was SOL on the Canadian side of the border. I happen to live about 8 miles north of the 49th parallel, so it is not too much bother to ship to the border. I just thought that I would ask.

I'm in Canada. Other than the wire for the control panel (which came from Home Depot), everything else was sourced from the US or China (eBay).

There are some plumbing fixtures that you can probably find in Canada but it'll actually end up costing you more in the long run.

If I lived that close to the border I'd never buy anything in Canada again. So sick of the prices up here.

judging by the Canadian plates and clothes and shoes left in the major department shore parking lots around here so do a lot of other Canadians.... :) Its all good though cause we got to cross the border every weekend to where the legal drinking age is 19 when we were younger....
