I spent all day today grinding and pressing about 8-10 gallons of cider. Initially they went into 6 gallon carboys and into the freezer to preserve them until my yeast is ready. Then I thought about what would happen if the glass broke and I poured the cider into two plastic buckets and then froze them.
So is it OK to freeze glass carboys? The cider will end up back into the glass for fermentation, just wondering if I am being too carefull.

I'm sure you can freeze the carboys -- if they're empty! I would not freeze one intentionally with liquid in it, that's just asking for trouble. Normal carboys are not some freezer to oven safe tempered glass.

My buddy left a fermenting carboy on his porch and it froze overnight. An ice plug formed in the neck and cracked the bottom right off. I think that if you had enough headspace it might be fine but would I not recommend it.
