SWMBO is probably going to get a wine chiller for christmas. Needless to say, thats not something I can go down to Mikes Tv & Applance and touch & feel before I buy.

What have ya'll got? Do you like it? How big is it? Can you put beer in it without having it on its side?

Looking to spend 3-500, less would be fine, more would be ok to. We've got around 50 bottles in stock, but the basement works well enough for long term storage, so I don't to store everything we have at one time.

Thanks,
cheers,
zac

you could always build an insulated room in your basement? DIY project possibly
...just a though

Need more info...

1) How much capacity do you want?
2) Do you want dual temperature zones (reds/whites)?
3) Do you want it to be fancy or just functional?

If you want a smaller unit, then Best Buy has quite a few. Also, many good appliance stores will have a decent selection. If you are interested in a larger unit, I would ask your local wine expert (at a wine shop for example) where he would recommend looking.

I have a smaller unit that holds about 30 bottles and is a single temp zone. I use it for wines I am actually cellaring. Stuff to be drank doesn't gedt special treatment in my house.

Scinerd,
Basement is pretty much maxed out. I'm really looking for something "plug & play"

BK,

The only one the semi local Home Depot has is 12 or 16 bottles, didn't look too long anyways...I'm thinking 50 or less.

I'll have to check about the dual zones. SWMBO is NOT a wine expert by a wide margin, but maybe dual zones would help her along this path?

Functional by a wide margin, this will go in a spare bedroom right beside her old dorm fridge/beer fridge. The 2 of us will probably be the only ones who ever see it. That said, I'm doing a kitchen remodel in the next few years, so a counter sized unit idea would also be entertained, just to keep the options ipen.

thanks ya'll
Zac

I have the 30 Bottle model that BK posted above. Although i bought mine from Sears, it looks exactly the same. No complaints here, has a cool Blue lighting system too!

I think I have a Sunbeam 12 bottle wine chiller. It works fine, it's actually pretty poorly insulated so there is a fairly big difference in temperate from the top to the bottom, but this helps because I can put the reds on top and the whites on the bottom and they're more or less at the correct temperatures. I could not put beer in there without setting it on its side.

Home Depot, Lowes, Sears... lots of places have them where you can touch and feel 'em if you want.

you beat me to it. I was gonna say I've seen plenty of 'dorm fridge sized' (or slightly larger) wine chillers at Lowes, Depot and even Sam's Club.
Sam's also has kegerators.

Ok, thanks guys, haven't checked Blowes or Sears. As many times as I've been in each, I've never noticed wine chillers, but then again, I've never been looking before.

I have a VinoTemp 28 bottle thermo-electric fridge which I think you can find at Target for about $300. Has a temp range of 54-66 degrees. I love it but the only problem is that it works perfectly for fermenting my ales so I am never able to put wine in it!! I might be getting a second one for X-mas so I can use it for what it is meant for.......

try your local craigs list too .... i was browsing mine the other day for beer/wine stuff and saw a bunch of people selling theirs, some new in box, some not.
