I have read too many posts saying you can, and so many saying you can not.
So can I or not?
Thanks guys!!!! I brewed my first batch yesterday!!!
I hope it turns out well.

I'd recommend not to use them. I tried once using a few twist off bottles, and the cap wouldn't seal properly.

I do, And have never had any problems.
But most brewers on here will say it's a No No.

It really to me is personal preference, To me using twist off caps and bottles is just easier.
But if your a new brewer try it both ways and see witch one you like better.

I've accidentally done it before with no ill results. I think they were Blue Moon bottles. I did drink those beers pretty fresh though.

Two concerns: 1-poor seal/oxidation over time. 2-thin rims could chip when using pry offs.

From what I've heard/read, you need a bench capper. Not one of the wing cappers that normally come with kits, or people buy since they're cheap (either the capper or the people ).

IF you have the right gear, and you want to give it a shot, try it as a test on part of a batch. Or bottle something you don't really care too much about (juice perhaps) and see how well it seals up over a few weeks (or longer).

I've never used a bench capper. (or any other type of capper for that matter)
Just screwing the twist off cap back on the twist off bottle seals it just fine.

That's all well and good IF you save all the caps from the bottles. I'd venture to say that the majority of people that get twist off bottles either didn't save the caps, or got them from someone else that didn't keep the caps.

Personally, I keg and bottle from keg only when taking some brew to others where it's easier to bring bottles. Most of the time, I bottle into swing top bottles (500ml or 1L), since I'm also usually splitting the brew with someone else. Before I started kegging, I didn't use pop (or twist) top bottles, but the swing top bottles. So I have plenty on hand to use. I do have about a case of long necks, IF I want to use them.

lol it appears there is still a difference of onion here. I have some of both, so I think I will bottle all I can in non twist bottles. And anything left over I will try the twist style. I will hope to pay attention to how the twist style does and provide some feed back. I would prefer to keg it. But since I am new to this I will see if I like what I can produce before I purchase a keg system.
Thanks guys!
Brew on!!!!!!
