Can I carbonate in a growler?

Hello, stupid question. I'm doing a Coopers beer kit, and wanted to know if I can carbonate in a growler for bottling? I plan to use corn sugar for the carbonating, but don't want the bottles to explode.

No, growlers aren't made to withstand the pressure of carbonating the beer.

I was sitting here thinking about this, and I can't see why carbonating would have more pressure than putting already carbonated beer in the growler and closing it up.

When conditioning, the gas in the headspace builds to a certain point and the rest of the gas stays in solution.

If you put already carbed beer in there, some will escape to the headspace, but the pressure will eventually get to a point where no more gas will come out of solution.

Maybe I am missing something, but I am not seeing a difference at the moment.
