Like the title says, would anyone be able to share their water report for the youngstown ohio area? I keep searching but cannot find any information for this online. Thanks.

Do you pay Aqua for your water? I was able to dig up their report for youngstown with zip code 44501 on their home page. The report looked a lot like mine and didn't have everything we need to know. I shot my company an email to their customer service department with my address and got a reply within a few hours with everything I asked for. You might try the same.

Yes I pay aqua. I never thought about emailing their customer service. I'll give that a shot. Thanks.

Ive had trouble getting a water report for youngstown too. The water department is clueless when u call and ask for a comprehensive report. If you call the number thats on the meanderwater website during the day they will give you the numbers from the plant that day. Its crazy the only reports on the site are annual.

Hey I really appreciate your input. I've been trying to get a report for months but I'm still coming up with nothing. I'll give the meanderwater number a try tomorrow and see what they can provide.

The water from Meander is "unusual" to say the least. pH of 10.8+. Check some of my postings. Being reservoir water it is a moving target. You can't even depend on RO water because the membranes don't behave as you would expect at that pH.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in the area who is actively searching for a reliable water report. That being said have you guys had any issues with your beer because of the water? What are you guys adding? Ive been brewing all grain for a couple of years now and my beer has been ok. I boil my mash water and then add calcium chloride and gypsem when it comes down to strike temp. My next batch I'm thinking of doing some acid malt to help get the ph down. Anyone talk to rust belt to see what they are doing?

Rust Belt isn't exactly a source of good information. The one guy that did know his stuff is now head brewer at Hoppin' Frog. Pretty much people brewing with city water are just taking what they get. At least the ones I know about. You could always go over to Ward Beecher and borrow some water if you are on campus. They have a water still on the roof. ;)

I thought most of us were close to the same... From a quick glance looks like you have some elevated ions and higher pH as hermit pointed out. http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/water-profiles/ You might try a tropical fish place to confirm, they know water and test daily.

I have 90ppm alkalinity so acid is pretty standard for me. I use filtered (chlorine) tap except for a few delicate lager that I get distilled for.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Would anyone happen to have gotten their water actually tested that could share the results?

Reservoir water is a moving target. Anecdotal evidence tells me it is softer in the spring when we get lots of run off. I don't know how often they test but have thought about calling and finding out. I haven't tested pH yet though and found it under 10.8+ but I was gone most of the year after I got my meter.

I use RO water. That takes my TDS down from the 270 range to about 65. I divide that up among the positive ions and assign according to ratios. I put that into the brewer's friend calculator along with the actual pH reading. My last brew was off .01 from that estimate.

Draught House downtown is $2 pint nights on Mondays and Thursdays. Stop down and we can discuss it more. I'm the old guy with the white beard.
