I realize this thread isn't really for metal news, but as I'm sure you're all aware by now, Lemmy died earlier today.

Can't say I was a huge Motorhead fan but when a legend like motherf*cking Lemmy dies, it kinnda sucks for everyone.

Agreed! It does suck. Honestly, a serious part of Rock and Roll died yesterday. Lemmy was one of the last TRUE rock starts. There are tons of folks that play rock and roll, but Lemmy WAS rock and roll! I blasted No Sleep at All and drank a homebrew when I found out last night.

Well, there was all kinds of drama in the Immortal camp. Bottom line, Abbath said fine, I will just write Immortal riffs under my own name. And that he did. Supposedly, the other 2 members are going to put out an "official" Immortal album this year. They have a high bar to hurdle to beat this album!

I nominated this for my senior prom theme. They told me to f*ck off.

I haven't listened to a lot of my old cross-over thrash CDs in a while. Maybe time to dust off the Suicidal, DRI, and Vio-lence albums.

I listened to DRI Thrash Zone the other day! First time in a decade or more.
I don't listed to much metal anymore, but I do keep up with new stuff from Death Angel, Flotsam & Jetsam, and a few others.

Did you listen to that Exmortus above? Based on the bands you keep up with, I think that will be right up your alley.

I was about to post DRI's thrash zone. I saw them once back in '90 or so and they were opening for Scatterbrain in a small (100 people) club in Rochester.:rockin:

This is still one of the best records ever. These guys were mad young when they recorded this. Some of them were in their teens I think:

Well, since we all seem to be in a thrash mood. Here is some more (modern) :rockin:

These guys just came out of nowhere with a damn fine PM record.. The resemblance between Vasilis' vocals compared to Roy Kahn's is uncanny to say the least and very welcome where I am concerned.

I have been listening to the new Anthrax album, For All Kings. Some of the vocals have that 80s cheese feel with Belladonna being back. Overall though, it is a pretty modern sound for a bunch of old dudes.

Ulterium Records is proud to announce the release of "Angel In the Ashes," an all-star charity track for sale with 100% of the income going to feed homeless and refugee families in Greece. The song is being released under the banner Project Aegis, and was composed by Theocracy songwriter and vocalist Matt Smith.

"Angel In the Ashes" features vocals by Rob Rock (Solo, Impellitteri), Daísa Munhoz (Vandroya, Soulspell), Vasilis Georgiou (Sunburst, Black Fate), Leah McHenry (LEAH) and Smith, as well as a guitar solo by Gus Drax (Sunburst, Black Fate). The artwork was created by Markus Sigfridsson (Darkwater, Harmony).

"I've been wanting to do another charity single since we had such a great experience the first time around," says Smith. "The challenge was finding the time and the appropriate cause, as well as putting together a lineup worthy of the caliber of talent we had on the last song. I think we did it!"

"The song is about someone who decides to take that first step to help a person in a dark or dangerous situation. I was talking to some friends of mine who live in Greece, and every weekend they help feed the huge number of poor, homeless and refugee families in that area. It's a massive need, and the dollar you spend on this song can make a huge difference in providing a hot meal or a blanket for someone. It's a very worthy cause, and everyone involved in the track freely gave their time and talent to make this happen. We hope you enjoy it!"

Rust in Peace, Nick Menza. You will be missed. Glad I got to see you play live with Megadeth "back in the day".:rockin::rockin::rockin::rockin:

I finally cracked open my copies of the Cobalt and CoL/Julie Christmas albums this weekend. Holy $#!t were those awesome! I must have listened to the first disc of Cobalt 10 times over the last few days. It's definitely on par with Eater of Birds to me. Maybe even better. The music at times has a Tool-ish vibe to it. There is a moment on the 2nd disc, can't think of the song, that has a guitar lick that sounds just like The Grudge.

Cult of Luna can do no wrong in my book and their latest is no exception. I thought they were taking a break after the Vertikal albums but they are touring and recording so I guess they're back. Christmas's vocals are the perfect accompaniment to CoL.
