Guten tag!

A buddy of mine just bought a massive old Monkey Ward chest freezer, with plans of converting it into a kegerator. THAT part I understand, no worries. He's got a Johnson Controls analog freezer control on order, and I'm going to help him build his collar and plumb the system.

But, he's springing on me now the idea of putting a box made of 4" extruded foam INSIDE his kegerator and wanting to use that as a lagering chamber.

I don't see any reason why that can't be done, and I think I've even figured out a slightly-less-inefficient way - using a peltier junction to heat the inside of the lagering chamber. The "hot" side of the junction will be inside the box and will provide the heat to raise the chamber from the kegerator temp of 35-40 degrees up to lager-fermenting temps of 45-55 degrees. A 12VDC thermostat will control the temp inside the lagering chamber.

(Before you start, yes, I know this is fairly foolish, to put a heating element inside a cooling device. He and I have been over this. He still wants what he wants.)

How big of a peltier junction would I need to keep a 24x24x24" chamber as much as twenty degrees warmer than the surrounding area?

Thanks!
