I would really love to make a batch of butter rum cider sometime soon, but through my searches of the interwebs i have only been able to find butter rum "oil" extracts. Does anyone know where i could find an alcohol based flavoring that would be useable in a cider? i think that the oil wont mix and i would really love to make a batch of this. If anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them :)

i think butter rum cider is like a mulled wine. you mix a finished liquer with butter and spices then heat it up, drink it, and pass out. i would love to see a homebrew recipe for cider that tastes like butterrumcider, though.

I was able to a find a rum extract, so i was thinking of adding that to the cider and some cinamon sticks while its aging (up to taste) then mixing the butter in later, but whats bothering me is i found actual butter rum extracts but they are all oil based

edit: i think i found my solution, those flavors only consist of Propylene Glycol, Artificial Flavor, Alcohol. Soluble in water. That shouldnt cause an issue should it?

I don't know why they are calling it batter, but it is a drink mix: http://www.liquors-store.com/buttered-rum-batter-combine

Seems like there should be some kind of "butter rum" schnapps out there, but a quick googling isn't finding it.

you may want to try DeKuyper® Buttershots liqueur, its really yummy stuff, my wife uses it to make Carmal apple martinis all the time. I believe its in the schapps area of the liquer store.

You might be looking for something like this: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/ProdByID.aspx?ProdID=5458
Not sure how you'd get the butter flavour if that brand doesn't carry it. Some wine yeasts will contribute a "buttery" flavour to chardonnay, maybe a chardonnay yeast would contribute the buttery flavours to your cider too; it's just an idea. Otherwise, you might have to settle for the hot buttered rum or tom & jerry batter. Regards, GF.

ok so i ended up coming up with a recipe last night while at work.

I plan on using a gallon store bought apple juice
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
half a teaspoon of butter rum extract (more or less depending on the strength of it) (https://www.lorannoils.com/p-8290-butter-rum-flavor.aspx)
nutrient
energizer
montrachet wine yeast

after about 2-3 weeks in the primary i plan on putting 1 clove, 3/4 stick of cinnamon stick, and 1/2 a vanilla bean in a bag and letting them sit in the cider until im happy with the taste.

This recipe should have an OG around 1.070 and ferment down to about 1.000 giving me an abv around 8.5%
