Hey guys. I am relatively new to home brewing but I am looking at purchasing a floor burner to move my process outside and off the stove, which sucks. I am currently doing extract but very interested in moving to All grain within a few months. I am currently only doing partial boils with 2.5 gallons of water in a cheap 5 gallon pot I got from local brew store. I am looking at either the "Dark Star" burner from NorthernBrewer.com or going all out with the Blichmann burner. I like the Blichmann for its quiet and looks badass. Which would be more beneficial for me to invest in. Also, would the blichmann be too much heat and destroy my lower grade brew pot? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

go with the blichmann, the dark star is OK but not much better than a turkey fryer burner, you'll have trouble keeping it from leaving soot from the bottom of your pot, as it has no real air adjustment.

The Blichmann is definitely heavy duty. If you plan on brewing very frequently that might be a good investment but is a lot for a burner. The Dark Star is very affordable and still works great. Also have you thought about a turkey fryer too? You can get a set pretty cheap with a burner and 7.5 gallon pot and they work great.

Thanks for the input guys.. I think I will go with the Dark Star and put the other $100 in to some additional equipment to get started with All Grain brewing equipment. Once I find if I have more time to brew more often, I will look into upgrading to more advanced equipment.

I just got a 50 qt. turkey fryer with basket and LP burner from Sam's Club online - total $116.14 incl tax/shipping. Aluminum pot quality acceptable, but haven't tried the burner yet. Just getting into BIAB and didn't want to spend too much $$$ yet until I knew it'll be worth it.

I'd buy the blichmann over anything. Quiet and efficient but I tinker with it a lot for no good reason. The dark star isn't as loud as a turkey fryer but with the extra legs and adjustable arms the blichmann is what you should spend the money on IMO

Thanks again for the input. I finally decided on the Bayou Classic kab6 burner... This thing is a beast, its huge! I cannot wait to cook on this bad boy.

HappyDog Let me know how you like it im shopping right now for a new burner - Do these HAVE To be used outdoors? I am converting my root cellar into my brew room, and am looking to plumb propane into it for something similar to this (also to heat the brew room during winter)
