I brewed a NB Dead Ringer extract kit today. I was doing a late extract addition. I added in the remaining extract with fifteen minutes left, put it back on the burner and it boiled over. The burner would not stay lit afterwards, so added the finishing hops, chilled, and pitched yeast. How will this affect my beer? Think the wort clogged up the burner, how do i fix it?

Here is the recipe
Steeped 1lbs Briess Caramel 40

Added 3.15lbs gold malt syrup in about 3 gallons of liquid, brewing in 5 gallon pot. Brought to boil

1oz centennial 60min
2oz centennial 20min

Removed from burner to add remaining 6lbs gold malt syrup at 15min

Put back on burner, the boil over got away from me, so like I said just added the finishing hops and finished up.

Thanks.

Wort definitely clogged the burner. I think the beer will be fine. People sometimes add extract at flameout. It's already been boiled so you're good.

Unclogging, you need something that will cut through the grime. Maybe a 50/50 vinegar solution? That is a total guess. I would start with pouring hot ass water on the burner and maybe start wiping it down and if you have q-tips, use those. Hopefully it unclogs enough then light it up, see if the extract/wort burns off.

Good luck to you.

If you basically cut 15 minutes off the end of your boil, you'll get much less bitterness from the hops additions and more flavor/aroma from the 20 minutes addition getting turned into a 5 minute.

No idea what kind of burner you are talking about. If it's an electric ignition, they often don't work when wet or dirty. If it's literally just clogged, then you need to clean it.

If you can remove the burner from the rest of unit, soak the head in really hot water (the hotter the better) for about 15-20 minutes, shake out any excess water, hook it back up, and see if it will light. If it lights let it run for about 10 minutes to dry out and burn off any gunk. If it doesn't light then see if you can clean out the heads with a q-tip or something.

Wort is pretty much nothing but a form of syrup, and after making candy for a few years now found out the easiest way to clean up dried syrup is to just soak it for a while in hot water (the hotter the better but doesn't need to be boiling).
