Walmart has musselmans cider on sale and I don't have an extra carboy to put it in: what size bung will fit straight into the orgianl plastic jug. Thanks!!!

I don't have that brand but 6.5 has worked for me on plastic jugs before, half gallon sized

heh heh heh

It's still possible that it'll take a different size but that's been working for me. Next time I'm at the lhbs I might pick up some sevens, drilled and non. Just to have flexibility

Hi
If you have a problem sourcing the correct size, I've had success with cutting bungs to fit odd sized jugs.
With bored bungs, fit a long bolt thru it with a washer either side of the bung, of less diameter than it. Secure with a suitable nut and secure in a horizontaly mounted power drill (or lathe if you have one).
Then use a file to shape it down as it rotates.
This works best with rubber bungs. If using cork, best to wear a dust mask! Cork dust can be dangerous if inhaled!

You'll find getting that stuff to ferment properly is a major challenge. It typically has multiple preservatives designed to prevent yeast activity and reproduction. It can work if you pitch enough yeast to get the job done before it realizes what it's in. My batches with it ended up as sparkling cider with a bit of a kick.

I've never had issues with that brand. I looked for preservatives and it didn't indicate there was any. Maybe I'm mistaken as I've only tried it once. I think the bung was 6.5.

The musselmans I get from walmart is preservative free. Just apple cider and citric acid. It is pasteurized but turned out great in my hopped english cider with us05. Had no problems with fermentation.

It's what I use now (instead of FAJC) for all of my fruit flavored ciders.
