Hello, I am fairly new to the brewing world, and am currently fermenting a Nut Brown Ale. This kit came with Hazelnut Extract which it says should be added during the bulk priming process.

My question is should this be added to the boiling water with the priming sugar, or should the extract just be added to the bottling bucket separately?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would be worried about boiling off aromatics. Personally, I would do the following:

Boil priming sugar
Add to bottling bucket
Let cool slightly
Add extract to it
Add beer and bottle as normal.

Just my thoughts.

That's what I've done with dry flavor extracts. I put in the priming solution in an effort to get the best flavor. But juiced fruits I strain & add to primary so far.

I would read the directions again very carefully. If the priming sugar alone is enough to prime, additional extract will over prime. (Possible bottle bombs)

I have never seen this.

If the two sugars prime properly, boil the sugar solution then dissolve the extract in it. Then add that to the bottling bucket. If you try to mix the extract in the beer you will be likely to oxygenate the beer.

The fact that they're called "extract" doesn't mean they're like extract malt. The one I used was not sugar based or have sugar in it. It was 100% freeze dried citrus juice. Many flavor extracts are not sugar based nor contain them. But it is good to be sure just the same. So adding them to the priming solution wouldn't be overpriming.

Ah, Yes! DUH! forgot about flavoring extracts.....

Then I would add it to the priming solution after boiling so that you don't have to do any extra stirring to mix it in.
