anybody know where to get the 500g packages?
they are mentioned on their site and i have found old dead links to purchase it, but cant put my hands on any.

Homebrewheaven used to carry it for ~$22 but said their supplier doesnt carry it anymore.

any ideas?

From what i remember from reading about these awhile ago is they are meant for commercial brewers. Danstar apparently provides them with a lot of support. (I forget what exactly) So they actually cost more per gram than the little sachets meant for home brewers. There was a thread on the probrewer forums about it a long time ago many of them saying they were going to start getting tons of 11g sachets instead of the bulk ones.

not sure exactly why i need it, but sounded pretty good if it could be had at $22.
i have a vacuum sealer and am planning on moving to 2 10gal batches per brew day and looking for ways to cut cost.

yep, exit 36 grill is still in business. havent been since it got cold out, but its always a good time.

Just an idea but if you want to save a little bit of the cost, Start washing your yeast.

1.95per packet x 10 uses = 19 cents per use.

That is if you go to 10, Lot of people will go further than that. The choice is up to you.

I wash yeast to save money not all that complicated and does store well.

Havn't been to 36 in a few years used to go when my son lived in Mooresville.

I get yeast repackaged from bulk yeast orders and divide it up into 20g packs and vacuum seal.
Into the freezer they go and haven't had any trouble with dry yeast doing it that way.

From Danstar

Nottingham will rapidly lose activity after exposure to air. Do not use 500 g or 10 kg packs that have
lost vacuum. Opened packs must be re-closed, stored in dry conditions below 4°C, and used within
3 days; 11 g sachets are not vacuum packed but are flushed with nitrogen gas to protect the yeast.

You may have had good luck with it but if you wash your yeast it will be much more economical in the long run.
