Hey all, I brew 4 gal batches and have never made a yeast starter nor harvested yeast. I was wondering though, if I made a starter from a vial of 200 billion cells (Escarpment Labs rules), and after a couple days split it into 3 or so vials and kept them in my fridge, will they have enough viable cells to be used without a starter for a later batch?

I make 1L starters with fresh vials of yeast, then split it into 3 or 4 vials. If you use these fairly quick, 1-2 weeks you probably wont need a starter. If you go past that i would make a starter. Was down to my last vial of yeast for vermont ale. It was 2 months old and when i did a starter on it, it took 2-3 days to get going again.
