Aieeee! Little ones, don’t look like fruit flies. Four batches in the freezer, at least a big in each of them. Any entomologists out there? Is my beer ruined?
Internet pictures (ugh) say maybe they do look like fruit flies. $&@/:”! What’s the chance they made it through the airlock?
Do you have the plastic cap on your airlock? Back in the day before I had a ferment fridge, I had plenty of fruit flies in my airlock after I decided (wrongly) that I didn't need that lid. The holes are tiny enough that it's hard for them to get through, and almost impossible for them to fight the escaping co2 to get down into the beer. Your picture looks like the larvae, not the adult flies, so one of them got in there to lay eggs. Refill the airlock with vodka or starsan and that should take care of that problem.
Little caps tightly on, yes. And they got into four separate batches (all sitting in the same chest freezer.). I’m going to spray everything down with bleach. I’m kegging one of the batches, so I’m going to taste that one and keg it if it’s ok. The other three are going into bottles and I’m going to leave them out for a bit to make sure the gravity isn’t changing.
