What is a "mix of stout and ale?".......
remilard said:A mix of stout and ale? Until relatively recently stout was not considered to be an ale.
Really?
Airborneguy said:Stout was considered a separate label for a long time. As in, Stout, Ale, and Lager. I've actually been to a few brewpubs that still like to say "the finest Stouts, Ales, and Lagers..." Blackstone in Nashville has it over their entrance.
Stouts weren't considered lagers (unless brewed with a lager yeast, which some are), if that is what you thought it meant.
Beezy said:What stouts are done with lager yeast? Never heard of that either.

Which are a type of Foreign Extra Stout according to the BJCP.
I've been to plenty of brewpubs where I'd have preferred a Bud over thier crappy, diacetyl-filled and too-green beer.
bovineblitz said:Same... I left 3/4 of a beer on the bar at a Portlane ME brewpub recently. The gf did the same, since it was two beers with the same problems we knew there was no point in trying to switch it for a new beer.
There is a brewpub in every city like that I think.
