I'm going to be brewing a hefeweizen tomorrow, using a yeast starter. I've read that wheat yeasts are quite vigorous, and yeast starters encourage a rapid start, and now I'm worried about blowoff. I'm using a 6.5 gal fermentation bucket and am not sure how to deal with this. I've read it's ok to leave the lid resting on the bucket but not snapped down until the most vigorous fermentation is complete. Should I just start out this way with the fermentation bucket in something to keep the overflow under control?

I'd put the fermenter in a place with a drain, snap the lid down and put a pint glass over the hole. A little less risky than leaving the top loose, as I've had them slide off.
