you probably have to add this outside the brew builder, but here is a link to ice packs. Several people have made the same suggestion and i suspect it will be available when the site gets updated.

Sorry guys I have been out of town (my grandfather passed away) and had limited access to the internet.

You are correct there will be an option for adding ice packs, bottle caps, and priming sugar by checking a box in the new brew builder.

Also the search engine has been revamped completely, and should work much better in the new version.

Let me know how the yeast turn out. If they do not work we will work something out.

Ed

I too can report excellent personal service from BMW. I used the Brew Builder but forgot to order an ice pack to keep the yeast chilled [looks like that will be fixed in the new brewbuilder update].
I emailed Ed for that to be added and he personally responded to my satisfaction. I received it quickly and the grain crush looks good. your prices are quite comparable to my LHBS, esp. after the BBBYO discount and not paying the $$sales tax here in CA.

thanks Ed!

p.s. sorry to hear about your grandfather.

Excellent! I'm excited to hear about the updates.

The yeast are working just fine, fermenting like crazy and smelling awesome. I just got a little worried I guess; I've used half a dozen smack packs, and they all swelled except this one. It is fermenting perfectly though!

I probably should not do this teaser but I am getting more confident that the new updates will be ready to be throughly tested in the coming week, and then released after a week of testing.

Changes/Updates that are planned:

1) The Brew Builder interface is completely redone to make entering a recipe much faster and easier. (I have played with it and I can enter a recipe faster in the new BB than I can in Beersmith)

2) All recipes can be shared in a public recipe database. You can add a name to the recipe and a brewers notes section to add things like mash temp, and other ingredients that we do not carry.

3) You will have a recipe book under your account that will have all of your recipes that you have created.

4) You can open any recipe in the recipe database and buy it as is, or make changes to it and save it as your own.

5) You will be able to upload a logo of your brewery that will be displayed with every recipe that you have saved in the public database.

6) You can save any recipe, not just ones that you buy.

7) You can enter a complete recipe, and then purchase only components of the recipe. You do not have to purchase the entire recipe.

8) There is will be an option for USPS shipping to Hawaii/Alaska and Canada.

9) The search engine has be reworked to function better, and has a intuitive feature. It tries to figure out what you are typing similar to google toolbar.

10) Checkout has been reworked to include a special instruction text area, as well as a crushed grain option.

11) Easy addition of ice packs, bottle caps, and priming sugar when purchasing a Brew Builder recipe.

12) Will will be able to give rating and reviews for every product on the site including recipes in the database.

13) There will be a "Hall of Fame" icon for recipes that have been purchased a lot and have a lot of positive reviews. Bee Cave Haus Pale Ale will be the first offical inductee.

14) You can drill down the recipe database by style and type (all grain, extract, PM). To find something you would like.

That is all I can think of off the top of my head, but I know that there are more.

Please let me know what you guys think, and any additional updates you would like to see. If they are simple enough they may get added to the list.

^^^^^^

i'm going to be ording for my next batch from you. a couple questions....

i need the following but either couldn't find them or didn't know a different name for them....

munich lme
caramunich malt

thanks in advance.

Wow, what amazing changes! I had talked a bit abot the brewbuilder on our big brew day a few weeks ago. One of the things we were actually discussing was how we can share eachother's recipes without having to manually enter them each time.

Looks like you were already on top of that one, great job!
I cant wait to try it out, when are the changes scheduled to go in?

There is no set schedule, but once I have approved the beta is working well. I am actually going to allow some people to go into the beta site and test it out. The beta testers will have a chance to have their recipes loaded before the actual launch to the public, so you will have your brewery name out there before anyone else. I will put something in this thread when it is ready, for the first 10 people that PM to gain access to the beta site.

Holy cripes. You have to be the most technically advanced site out there. Please let me know if you need testing help.

Edit - Crap, posted as you were typing the above message.

The thing I am most excited about is the new interface of the Brew Builder. I think that everyone will be blown away by how easy and slick it is to use. The web guys have done a remarkable job getting it to work how I want it to work.

Those changes sound great, and exactly what we have been talking about. It is nice that you listen to what we have to say. I am especially happy about saving the recipes and being about to buy them without having to redo them.

Do not be  about it. The discount is good when you buy a brew builder recipe. I do not remember you ordering one, although I am sure you could have reworked it so you did have one.
I didn't know that. And I wasnt  at you but rather myself. I like the brew builder but I have bulk base malts because I live somewhat close to a local distributor and get them really really cheap.

I did appreciate the personal phone call about my order and will order again :)

Wow those changes sound fantastic Ed. Really truely above and beyond. At the price I'm paying for 2-Row here (buying bulk) I may just have to start putting my recipes together and sending them to you, as your prices are only slightly more (and w/ BBBYO it is basically the same.)

I cant wait to see the update Brew Builder!!

I am curious to see the updated brew builder as well. I actually did a usability testing paper and research project on the brew builder for my master's capstone. It will be fun to see how things have changed.

You could easily put in the BJCP scores in the authors notes section when creating the recipe, or in a review posting after the fact. I do not want to add a separate field for it just because I think it would be left blank too often.

This is the exact reason why with the new Brew Builder you will be able to enter in a complete recipe, and then only buy the things that you need. I wanted to make sure that people like you that buy in bulk can still use it to post recipes and make purchases at the same time.

Wow that is just cool that the brew builder was part of your masters capstone. Very neat for me to hear about.

I certainly listened to everyone's comments and there are many more updates to come in the future to add even more functionality to our site. I am very excited about the ability to have custom made products so a customer can get exactly what they want. With being able to save recipes for everyone to share the possibilities are infinite.
