I know that Moxie is one of those drinks you either love or hate. And being from Maine, we practically swim in the stuff. I personally always have a can nearby :)

I've always thought that the spices and flavors would add an excellent complexity to a darker beer, but I'm not sure what would make a good base to add it to. I was thinking perhaps a stout or an amber ale on the darker side. Any suggestions?

Myself being from Maine and also being a fan of Moxie, I had thought about this too. I was going to get some and try to boil it down a little to make an extract, and then add it to a porter, but I like your idea for an amber ale. My only hold up is how much you would have to boil down and what would that do to the original taste? I guess we will have to see!!

Moxie beer! BRILLIANT! Glad to see some fellow Mainers kicking about too. I am very interested to hear how this turns out!

I say boil it down only to make sure you don't dilute it down to much when adding it (make it like an extract, i.e. syrup). If you were really going for a "Moxie", then you would really want to make sure that the taste came through. I know that there are a lot of people that don't like it, but for those who do, it would make all the difference.

I might be concerned about all the simple sugars in a soda. So, maybe going for a big OG would help. I know plenty of people who add sugar to barley wine and the like. Let us know how this turns out!
