Brewing with keggles

Hey guys,

I have two keggles, one is my mash tun and the other is my hot liquor tank/kettle. They both have ss braids in them with a sightglass/therm from bragainfittings.com.

My question is instead of getting a expensive pump to start out all grain, can i just use gravity and set one higher then the other to transfer. I have seen it done with coolers but i was wondering if you can do it with keggles.

Do it, just remember that you will leave the wort behind that is in the dead space under the braid.

Yes, I heat water in the mash tun, add the grain and lift it to a bench when it's cooled sometime during the mash. I then gravity drain to the BK sitting on a burner. I FWH and start the boil while finishing the sparge.

you can have 1, 2, or 3 level setups with keggles, coolers or a combo. if you're curious, google 2-tier or 3-tier herms systems. you don't have to have to have a pump for this. gravity works too

I do 10 gallon batches with a keggle for HLT/BK and a rubbermaid cooler MT. It works out great, I just use 3 ale pails to transfer fluids, its not really that heavy and works great.

gravity, its the law. a keggle mash tun will need some kinda insulation.

Actually, it's still just a theory. Everywhere gravity is mentioned, there's an itty bitty asterisk that says: "At least until something better comes along."
