Good Morning,
A friend and I were talking about brewing a 10 gallon batch together, but I wanted to bring my 5 gallons home to ferment instead of leaving it at his house. I know this is done, but I can't find any threads on recommendations.

My first thought was to put it in a sanitized keg, then siphon it into my carboy & adding yeast when I get home. Is there any problem with this, or is there a better way?

Thanks!
Russell

I would take the carboy to your buddy's house, and fill you 5 gallons there. Then pitch the yeast when you get home.

I put the wort in a bucket, sit it in the passenger seat and strap it in! Should work fine with a carboy

No reason the keg won't work. It's sealed well, so it won't spill. Just introduces one more transfer and chance of infection, though probably a small one.

I did this with a couple brews recently. I decided to go with the keg solution. The keg adds a another transfer which could lead to infection but the carboys add a risk of breaking and filling my truck with 10 galls of wort and a bunch of broken glass. If you have plastic carboys your decision may be different but look closely at how well it seals. I could have rolled my truck on the way home and my beer would have stayed in the kegs. Next time I'll do the kegs again, it was easy. I had planned to just use CO2 to transfer them but clogged the beer out valve pretty quickly with hop material so ended up with the siphon.
