Brewing up Crimson Oktoberfest kit....

So this will be my second brew, the Crimson Oktoberfest kit (pdf). Anyone have any suggestions for something I can add or do differently to help make the beer my own, instead of just the kit? I am not familiar at all with the style, so I am at a lost for what kind of flavors would complement it. Thanks for all the help!

OK never-mind. I am a moron, and after checking out the kind of yeast it requires, I realized that this is a lager, which I do not have the facilities to brew currently. So instead I will be brewing up a cream ale (pdf), so any suggestions you have to offer for that would be super. Sorry again for the newbie fail

If you have the option, the larger the boil you can do the better. Consensus seems to be that it makes a big difference... not necessarily practical on some stoves, though. I just do mine outside on a turker burner...
