So I just finally went and picked up the ingredients for NCbeernut's "Deception stout" recipe, with a few minor alterations. Rather than 4.5 lb of Amber DME and 1.5 lb of Wheat DME, I will be using an even 3 lb of each, at the suggestion of the local HBS guy and for the sake of saving a few bucks. Rather than having to pick up two pouches of Wyeast 1028 I will also be using Safale US-04, which I have read works nicely for stouts and has a high degree of attenuation. The only other thing I had planned on doing differently was throwing some honey in the boil for a little more kick in the final product (hoping to maybe push it from 5% to 6%". I forgot the honey though so odds are I'll just be doing it the way I've stated without. I'll let everyone know how this one turns out when it's done. I plan on giving it three weeks in primary and three weeks in bottle before having a go at it. What do you guys think of the changes I've made to the recipe?
