Question to all the brewers out there. I'm brewing my 10 ever batch tomorrow (10 All Grains) and I'm curious. At what point have you all started to re-brew prior beers? The beer I'm brewing tomorrow is my 10th different recipe, so I'm curious to know how many folks out there brew new recipes each time, and how many folks out there stick with a constant rotation of recipes, only brewing a new recipe here or there.

While I like brewing/trying new things, I also want to hone in on certain recipes that I've already done that I've enjoyed, but think I could do better the next go around.

What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Eventually you'll fine a couple of recipes you like and you'll repeat them. But for the most part, I brew like I drink. I've never been a guy that just drinks one brand or style of beer. Most of the time, if I'm at a bar, I'll have a different brew each round. To each his own. Your not abnormal....or normal. :D

I'm like hammy71, I like variety in my beer. If there's one you really like there's nothing wrong with doing it again and trying to fix any mistakes you made or try new things to make it even better, or just keep trying different things, either way you really can't go wrong.

I agreey with Hammy71 - it really depends. When I moved to a new place, the first beer I brewed was one I had brewed in the past. It helped me hone into my system that much quicker at the new place.

If you really want to try and nail down some solid recipes try brewing the same thing every other brew. That way you are getting some variety and tweak a staple. Also enlist friends to help you drink that staple!

I never repeat a recipe. I do have general 'recipes' for American Pale Ales, English pale Ales, Saisons, Porters, etc, but every time I brew, I'm always changing things to try ......... and improve, see what happens, what different ingredients or techniques do, ......., ....... I've brewed over 200 batches, and don't think I have ever tried to repeat a batch.

I'm only on my fifth, but it is an overhaul of my 1st. Converted a simple extract/steep Pale Ale into a PM with more malt variety and revamped the hop additions. I want to nail this one as it will be my staple.

I am also gonna tweak a Porter recipe I came up with, then use it as a base for a wide variety of Porters (flavored, wood aged, fruit, etc.)

I'd say whenever you get settled with your equipment and process, start revisiting some batches that you really liked but could use a better execution. I'm going on about 40 batches. About 5 batches ago I upgraded to a stainless kettle, doubled the length of my chiller, re-purposed my old aluminum kettle into an eHLT, and started kegging. A couple batches later I rebrewed my bohemian pils and IPA. They are both significantly better the second time around.

I'll try a rebrew on about every 3rd batch. I like to try and achieve the perfect recipe for my tastes. This usually takes several takes on the same recipe with slight variations to try and dial it in. I think you have to mix it up though so you have several different beers available at any given time.

I try to brew seasonally so each year there are a few recipes that get repeated but after I finish 5 gallons I'm usually ready for something new.

I'll be brewing my 30th tomorrow, and I have only rebrewed 1 (NB's Dead Ringer). I just kicked a keg of CYBI Mirror Pond clone. Both of those will get brewed again this year. I'm definitely a variety guy, but I'm coming across some that will become staples in amongst continued one-offs.

On my 7th brew now. Been different each time and I got the next 4 planned out, all different.

There's too many varieties of each type of ingredient and style of beer to know what I want for sure. I have much more learning to do.:D:drunk::tank:

recently i haven't been brewing the same recipes as i am trying to branch out and explore new styles that are commercially unavailable to me in their fresh form. that said, i do rebrew batches that i really liked frequently, tweaking things here and there until i get the recipe to my liking. weirdly though, once the recipe is where i want it, i haven't rebrewed it. something about fear of consistency, but as there is a first time for everything and since i bloody well adore my porter, the ingredients are presently waiting in the pipeline.

I like variety so I brew a lot of different recipes, but I have a few that I like and brew again. For example I am in the middle of my boil for an Amber Ale recipe that I have brewed 4 or 5 times before. I like it and have doing slight refinements to get it just how I want it.

I tend to brew a different recipe each time, but there are a couple that I really like. I'll tweak those a little to try and make them even better, and do another batch after I run out. I'd say about 95% of the time it's a totally new recipe.
