Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a sculpture so that I can brew about 30 gallon batches at a time. since that size pot cost a nice little fortune, i was wondering if it's possible to use galvanized steel garbage cans as a mash tun and another as my kettle to boil the mash. is it really necessary to have stainless?? That would save me lots of cash!!

any tips and ideas are very appreciated!

Thanks!!!!

I'm sure others will have a more scientific answer.

To make it quick though, NO - you can not use galvanized cans as boil pots. I am pretty sure galvanized anything in the kitchen is a no no. Galvanized items will rust quickly in an acidic environment.

+++ on the no Galvanized - and although I don't really like using (irrational maybe) Aluminum, it is a heck of a lot cheaper than stainless.
