I showed this thread to my wife tonight. I told her this was in the semi near future. She asked how old the "dudes on this board" were. I told her I was right in the middle age wise. She said that when i get to the upper 75% of age I could do it.
Now i'm rooting for more younger members to join....

In your temperature controlled cold room do you have the proper fluorescent fixtures installed that will light off in a cold enviroment? There is a difference in fixtures as a standard fluorescent will not light off when installed in a refrigerated cold room. There are special fluorescent fixtures for cold or refrigerated rooms. We installed fixtures in a Safeway store when the store supplied the fixtures. They worked while the room was warm and they stayed on while the temps dropped to 15*F above zero. When the lights were turned off and cooled down around 15 minutes later they did not relight or turn on again. The ballasts had to be changed out, nice working in 15*F above zero.

The cold room is outfitted with a 60 watt incandescent light. Instant on and instant off. My light switch on the wall outside will have a red light indicating the light is on.

That's actually pretty damn cheap. I suspected it quite a bit over that. That's definitely not including sweat equity though.

I finally got around to getting some more work done on the brewhaus. It's a combination of time and money now.

I have most of insulation finished and all of the wiring in the front 3/4ths. I mounted 1 of 3 fluorescent lights. Man it kicks out some light.

Do you have 2 Air conditioning units? One inside the cold room and one in the main room?

Yep. The one you see in this pic is a heat/cool unit for climate control.

Just came across this thread for the first time and read it start to finish. Just want to join the others in saying keep up the great work... I'm getting ready to carve out a space in my 25'x25' shop for brewing. SWMBO is getting fed up with me using our utility room for my homebrew supply storage, as it is rapidly taking up more space .

Can't wait to see the finished product.

I built him a two faucet kegerator from a 5. cu. ft. Oster fridge and I work hard to keep it full for him.

Not to detour from EdWorts great thread/build; I'm 25!

If you want to emulate EdWort, I suggest starting a savings plan now. Set aside whatever you can every month into an account you won't touch for a while to set up your seed money. If he can do this for 7 grand, target that amount!
If you are handy, like he is, you can make it happen. If not, hit the classes that are usually free at the local Home Depot and learn what you can.

Ed's an inspiration to those of us who were sitting at home wanting to go big but thinking "can I really spend that much on my 'hobby'?"

Cut Ed some slack we had our first real rain of the year this week, we are realing in shock & disbelief we thought it would never happen again. LOL

It's a beautiful sunny 75 degree day here in Austin. I should reach the 80s.

My neighbor's son, who works in sheet metal, is fabricating my vent hood according to mrbowenz specs. It will be just like his, 60" wide, 20" deep, and 14" high. The backsplash will be 60" wide by 80" tall, so to have a clean look and merge with the hood. It will be vented by a high temp fan, the same as mrbowenz. It moves 220 CFM. Materials will be 20 gauge galvanized steel.

I'll post pics after it arrives and the installation begins. Thanks to mrbowenz for his help on the hood.

The hood and backsplash just arrived this evening.

It looks like it will fit nicely. My neighbor's son does nice work. No sharp edges.

Now, when the fan arrives from Grainger, I can get to cutting some holes and mounting the hood and backsplash.

It's getting there, slow but sure.
