Looking to downsize the footprint. Local brewery has one for test batches, I was there while he was brewing and he said there were no issues. Plus a crane would be cool. lol

One of the big advantages of BIAB brewing is the ability to utilize finely milled grain for the increased speed of conversion and the high efficiency it gives which is allowed by the large filter area of the bag which doesn't clog up with the fine particles. With the basket that has only a screen at the bottom, aren't you getting into the same problems that a false bottom causes? You would reduce the filter area a large amount with that.

A Wilser BIAB bag costs around $20. It's highly effective, allows fine grist to be used, drains quickly, easily affordable, easily cleaned and lasts many brews. How would the basket pictured compare in these basic categories?

It's interesting to see the fans of both baskets and bags hash out the pros and cons. One thing to keep in mind is that baskets are quite a bit more expensive so those who go right to a basket are conceivably more prone to justify the spend. Bags will definitely more fully drain with the help of a little squeeze if you want. You can use a hoist or similar type crane for bags as well. A basket with solid walls may be a bit more conducive to a sparge, just like the grainfather, but there's no reason for sparging if you can fit the full volume.

In answer to the question, Utah biodiesel will make a custom basket for you to whatever specs you want. Graydon is awesome to work with. Hell walk you through the whole process.

Do they make their own baskets or is Arbor Fab making theirs as well as their own?
