Ended up at 11.5 gallons post-boil.. Should be just about right to compensate for all of the pumpkin and garbage... Anyone know off hand what the generally accepted temperature is to avoid hot side aeration?

And we're off:

I just started heating strike water. Double batch of American Stout today, one with a bit of roasted barley, one without. Might be dark before I am done, so much for getting an early start! Hell it's so nice out today though I don't mind.

FYI never pour strike water into the mashtun with the ball valve open. the water pouring out onto your foot will melt off skin.

Snafu, didn't notice you were in Richmond. Good to know there's several of us brewing it up today.

Hey ditto!, great day for it eh? You in the JRHB?

Ok, all done except for some clean up, final #'s: came in exactly at 6 gals and ended up with a 1.042 but was for looking for a 1.048

I might start up soon myself.... Kinda feeling lazy. Might just do it tomorrow.

Fixing to start the sparge. Got a late start today. Not like I got **** else to do. I think somebody said something earlier about leaving the spigot open. I read that and laughed .... then I did it.

I think that today was the first time in a long while that I actually remembered to check the spigot before dumping the water in there.

I'm a slow learner as well, had to run hot wort down leg a couple of times before I learned that lesson!

Strike water heating...

I did the spigot thing too. Not today, though. :)

Petey, just noticed your from Ok, I lived in El Reno for a spell. I left right after all those tornados (78) on May 3 1999, after seeing all that I carried my skinny white tail back to virginia!...lol

I just started going to the meetings about a month ago, they seem ok. I was hoping they could help me more with water profiles and such, but so far it had been all about the Dominion Cup. They did help me acquire a keggle, so I can't complain.

UPDATE: Crazy fermentation has finally slowed down, I was changing out my water flasks 2x a day from blow off foam. I keep 2 sets of 1000ml flasks handy for just this reason! Will be transferring to the secondary tonight and going with the standard airlock, I'll let her sit another 10 days or so, then bottle. :mug:
