Braided heater hose

Has anyone used stainless steel braided automobile heater hose as an MLT manifold?

I know water supply hose is common, but I'm looking at a 3/4" ID 304 SS braided heater hose that's 4 feet long for $18. There's also a 5/8" x 6' version for $30. I'd replace the rubber inner hose with either vinyl or CPVC. By using the braid I could make larger holes in the CPVC and the braid would act as a coarse filter.

Thoughts?

Looks like a pretty good deal!! And you don't have to push 6' worth of braid off of the hose.

It's not all that common to put any hose inside the braid. If you want to make it more rigid, you can put a stainless spring inside or make a spiral with stainless wire. If you go to the water heater area of Lowes, you can find a 1" x 18" stainless braid hose for about $12 if I recall and you won't pay shipping.

I'm seeing "manifold" and six feet of braid in prrriiide's post. I think it's safe to assume he's not thinking batch-sparge bazooka tube solution, and constructing an actual manifold would use quite a few multiples of $12 supply hoses.

As for the pictured hose sleeve, I doubt it would support the mass of a good mash without returning to its flattened state, bwtfdik

I believe usw of similar material was used in the "crushproof braid" thread some time ago. The OP discovered that it is so fine that it was prone to stuck sparges. To be so pliable, the ss wires are very small. I wouldn't use a flat/flexible sheathing type braid fwiw. As Bobby said above, the 1 X 18 water heater supply is a big sturdy braid for cheap.
