Nice Yooper! I've got 1 Ocean Kayak (2 person), and 2 river kayaks (1 and 2 person). I typically use it to fish from and spearfish so i use and abuse the Ocean yak more.

I've done whitewater up in North Carolina, but i never learned how to roll the damn thing!

2 Kayaks & 1 canoe. Ours are flat water Kayaks as we fish from them. No decent rivers around Houston anyway, but lots of saltwater.
Go to Algonquin in Northern Ontario ever few years for Pike fishing and Moose Watching.

That sounds great, Yoop! I've only had two experiences in kayaks and had a blast both times. Once was sea kayaking in Monterrey Bay to look at otters. Kind of touristy, but cool for this ol' inland chick.

You have an open invitation to bring 'em to East TN and enjoy some of the water around here. We're a scant few minutes from the Nolichucky River and the deepest gorge this side of the Mississippi. Will trade room and board for some brew tips and time on the front porch telling lies. Good times!

I looked at getting into a kayak for the ocean; but don't think I would ever use it as much as I should since I prefer to surf. But due to the flatness out here I am waiting for a great craigslist post to open up for a Stand Up Paddle Board... basically a large surfboard that you paddle while standing and can direct into waves... looks like a great time killer when the waves are down (but it might take away from my brewing) and an amazing workout.

I've wanted to get a pair of kayaks for me and the wife. She is not very athletic, so it might be a good way to get a little exercise and be something we can both enjoy. We rents canoes this summer on a camping trip and it was pretty new to both of us. Working together really tested our ability to get along...
