I have done a few brews at home. My latest one was a AHB clone of Sam Adams Summer Ale. I bottled a week and a half ago and opened a bottle to test the brew. It has a low carbanation and the taste was super sugar-y. Does it just need more time to take off the sugur edge as it continues to carbonate? I also thought maybe had something to do with the lemon zest used in the boiling?? None of my other brews have done this. Any input is awesome.

What was your SG, FG and how long did you wait to bottle? Give it more time for sure. Minimum 2 weeks at least.
