Is there anything special that I should know about just bottling a few beers from
my keg? Seems like I should just be able to open the tap, fill a few bottles and cap right? Thanks.

get a beer gun. it makes things easier. if not you can get away with bottling from the tap. take a foot of tubing that fits into the spout of your faucet. reduce the pressure in your keg to slow down the pour to reduce foaming. cap immediatly. i would plan on drinking bottles within a day that are done by this method.
