I've never bottles a batch before, always kegged....I was given a bunch of flip tops, so now I'm gonna attempt to bottle a Guinness Clone I brewed....Its been sitting in the secondary for about a month....Is there anything else I have to do besides rack to the bottling bucket, add the DME, stir and bottle.....

Beersmith says to use about 6 oz. of DME for storage at 73 degrees....

boil 2 cups of water, add the DME with 2 min left in the boil.

I never cool mine, just pour it in the bottling bucket, then set my siphon tube to swirl the beer as it flows in.
 
Add the DME to the water cold. It clumps much less and it's easier to mix.

Also you'll want to gently stir the priming solution into the beer and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to be sure that it mixes thoroughly before you bottle.

Actually the amount is based on the temp the beer was fermented at. Really it's whatever the max temp was when the yeast stopped making co2. If you fermented at 70F but the beer got up to 75v on a hot day after word you could lose dissolved co2 to the atmosphere. Of course that is also somewhat dependent on how long it was at a higher temp.

Since most people have a fairly consistent ambient temp, the ferm temp is a good guideline when estimating sugar needed.

Personally I used corn sugar or table sugar. It's all personal choice but I never had any taste issues when bottling with sugar.

I've never heard anyone claim that they could taste the difference between a beer bottled with DME and one bottled with corn sugar, or even table sugar. The only difference is that you'll be using less table sugar and it will be cheaper... That's why I bottle everything with either dextrose or sucrose.
 
Thanks.....So If I use DME, do I just boil it up with 2 cups of water, then add to the beer, and bottle......

I'm gonna bottle it tonight, so Could I add the boiled DME to the carboy now, then transfer and bottle it tonight from the bottling bucket.....I guess then it would be mixed properly????
 
It's best to add the DME solution to the bottling bucket rather than adding it to the carboy especially if you intend on stopping a 1/2" or so from the bottom to avoid drawing any sediment into your bottling bucket. Siphoning into the bucket on top of the solution will mix it well enough.
