I'm thinking of entering my first homebrew competition and I noticed in the guidelines that there should be no raised lettering on the bottles or they will be disqualified. I've noticed that the recycled commercial bottles i use tend to have seemingly random barcode type numbers letters in very small along the bottom. Is this what they are talking about or are these okay to enter in competitions?

I think what they are saying are any identifying marks that could identify where that bottle came from. For example Sam Adams has their name raised on the bottle.

They mean logos or names, etc cast into the glass, besides no labels left on the bottles. Those numbers are in ink i do believe. I've been trying to save my logo'd bottles & plain ones for myself or contests in the case of the plain ones. I save Sam Adam's bottles for giveaways. So I have to remember to mix plain & SA bottles into every box of bottles just in case.
