Hi I just puchased a fermtech bottle washer, works great but I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue, ill explain...

I am using the laundry tub in our basement and attached to the faucet is a runoff hose thing which goes to the floor drain (it has somthing to do with keeping water in the drain so gases from city sewer doesnt come back into the house.) Every time you turn on the water a bit of water goes into the drain, this is normal but when I attach the bottle washer and turn on the water alot of water is pushed into the drain because of the pressure created, there is still sufficient pressure in the bottle washer, I am just concerned with wasting the hot water (which is one of the reasons i got the bottle washer).

if anyone has had a similar issue it would be great to hear from you, Im going to ask my bro in law (plumber) if he knows a solution..

I always thought those devices would be a good invention, this is the first actual one I've heard of. I'd disconnect it while brewing- they are for low usage traps to prevent evaporation. I also would think it should only allow a spurt, then shut itself off... Ask you bro in law if he knows about waterless urinals? They use a copolymer liquid that floats on water, basically pee sinks through it and down the drain. I wonder of the fluid is available? Better living through chemistry, rather than mechanism ?

Go to the hardware store and get an inline valve for the side line, so when you have your bottle washer hooked up you can turn off the flow.

thanks for the input boyz, ya I talked to my bro in law and basicaly thats what he suggested, either remove the tube and plug while brewing or put a shutoff valve, I think ill go with AHammers suggestion
