Hey guys,

About to start my third brew... I got a Morgan's Royal Oak Amber Ale, 1.3kg of muntons plain amber LME and an ounce of hallertau hops. (thinking of adding 500g of dark brown sugar)

I was wondering about boiling kits... I know I don't NEED to boil them... But if i'm adding the extra hops for flavour I do... So about length of a boil.

I did a 15 minute boil for my first brew and it was great.... It was a tad cloudy though. I bought some irish moss I can add in for this brew, but I was wondering. How would a 60 minute boil improve my beer... Or does it matter?

What made you think that you don't need to boil this? The hops diffidently need to be boiled. What do the kit instructions tell you to do?

Oh no, i know that to add the hops I have to boil... The hops is an addition to the kit that I chose to do.

I'm talking about just a standard can kit... They are technically no boil kits

If the hops are a flavor addition,a 20 minute boil will do fine. If you're doing a partial boil, boil no more than 2lbs of extract in 3 gallons of water to do the 20 minute addition. Then at flame out,add the remaining extract, stirring till no more LME can be scraped off the bottom of the BK. Then chill down to 64-70F in an ice bath.

So my understanding is that to achieve the best clarity you need to get as close to a full boil as possible, chill you wort fast and using some irish moss can help... Does length of boil contribute to clarity?
