boil volume

I'm looking at Beersmith and it says estimated post boil volume should be 6.01 then it says add H2o to achieve 5 gallons. What happened to the 1.01 gallon? Noobie question .....sorry?

I use the old Beersmith, so this may be different in the new, but on the recipe page, I type in my post boil volume in the box labeled "batch size".

Also, there is a brewing software subforum here, just scroll down the main page, its towards the bottom. You might be able to find your answer there.
