Has anyone put wood in the boil? Is this dangerous? Should I not drink the brew I did this with? I read it can make methanol and be dangerous? I did a 60min boil with wood at the beginning and at 45 min. Through the end of the boil.

I've used my mash paddle to stir my boil before, but I didn't notice any methanol headaches.

I don't think boiling wood is going to outright create 'wood spirits' I'm pretty sure you have to distill those. I would think that by boiling wood you might extract tannins and others flavors from the wood itself. I wouldn't think those to be good flavors but then again I've never done that before.

Why did you boil wood?
