Last night I was brewing a batch using Munich LME and Amber DME, I got a boil over in the first 20 minutes of the boil. The issue is that the mess remained on my stove top for the rest of the boil. Does anyone have any helpful hints to get this baked on DME and LME off my stovetop?

When I brewed my watermelon hefe, that bavarian wheat DME boiled over like mad with 3.5 gallons of spring water in the kettle. I never got one that boiled over even though I was stiring like mad. I had to clean it up as much as possible while it was still wet. The dried stuff came off easy enough with PBW on the stove I'd mixed to full strength for my wife to use. The kettle came clean with a Dobie brand scrubber & tap water. Cleaning it up immediately saves a lot of headaches later.

I personally use simple green for everything. 1 gallon concentrate is like 10 bucks at home depot. I wouldn't clean actual brewing equipment with it though, it probably leaves a little bit of residue. Other then that, I have soaked awfully dirt dishes in it, ran it through the washer to clean army gear, and degreased car parts with it.

If it is a glasstop, use a razor blade on a paint scraping tool. I've been doing that for years, across 2 stoves.

try spraying it with oven cleaner and letting it sit for 15-20 mins.

A good soak in PBW or Oxyclean ought to do it for the grates, make a paste of same for the stove top...

I'll be damned if I never thought of making a paste out of PBW, like that paste Stewart's used to give us to clean the radarange with. I'll have to try & remember that one.:rockin:

I score it with one of those green scub pads, spray with oxy, wait 5 minutes and then scrub it off

I do all my boils outside on the gas cooker. This avoids the problem, and a hose and water will wash away the boilover. :D
