so i brewed up a huge stout last night, threw a blow off in her because i over sparged a little.

i checked on it before i left the house today and put it in an ice bath in the tub. fast forward 4 hours later...

i came home to find my blow off tube on the other side of the bathroom with some foam seeping thru the stopper. the amount of foam leads me yo believe it came undone about an hour before getting home.

do yall think it got infected that fast? im gonna ride it out regardless but am looking for any hope at all here

You are probably fine. Due to the CO2 pushing everything away from your beer, I doubt it has gotten infected from blowing the tube. I would probably lose bung and find a tube that can fit directly in your carboy.

My stout fermented so hard it actually siphoned about 1/2 gallon out of my fermenter. Considering the ale yeast is a top feeding yeast I'm a little concerned my FG will be higher than predicted.... But. Find out soon I guess. I also agree with the pressure inside your fermenter has probably saved your beer. I wouldn't think an infection would be a concern. Long as you found it all in time

It'll likely be fine. My wife at one point brewed another batch of BB's Summer Ale & it was merrily bubbling away sort of in front of her as we watched videos & drank some homebrews. Just as we both raised our glasses to drink, a loud POP! The lid & blow off popped open with quite a bit of force. Right in front of her, I was sure she'd get sprayed & that'd be the end of that!
Nope. Not at all. I cleaned & sanitized the lid, seal area, etc & tightened the bucket lid down one more, making sure the blow off tube wasn't plugged. The beer turned out fine. But she was shocked & surprised at how much co2 pressure can build up inside a fermenter. So fix it & let it ride...:mug:
