blow off question

What diameter tubing do I need to fit directly over a 5 gallon glass carboy for blow off,...and what do you suggest I put it into, water or sanitizer? Thanks.

i use that too. but then i made pliney and the 1/2" tube couldnt handle all the hops from the boil...shouldn't have dumped it all in. oh well it clogged and blew the top off

I believe you can fit a 1"ID hose in to the neck of the carboy, otherwise I'd just measure and go with that ID. I'm sure it would have to be over 1 1/2".

Northern Brewer sells 1" tubing as blow off tubing. I've used it before, it jams into the neck well.

I use the orange carboy cap. I use the angled tip for blowoff, and when it's done, I just put the cap on and put an airlock in the verticle tip. I use a half gallon glass jug filled with sanitizer i used for the brewday.
