Blending beers

I have a friend who will constantly pour on top of the last few ounces of beer in his glass. Pilsner, cider, hef, IPA, etc without thinking twice. I can't imagine it tasting great.

Anyone remember what a "suicide" was? Maybe it was region-specific.

That's what we called it as kids when you blended every kind of soda that was available. I grew up in NW Ohio. It was common to ask for a suicide. That was early '70s.

It was called a "graveyard" in Oregon. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
Been blending beers for a long time, and there are at least a few breweries around here who will blend upon request. Cascade Brewing sours blended can yield great results, for example.

I have a maple Belgian Quad that is really big. It is a sipper, but I will mix it with a pale ale to balance the sweetness, and ABV. I also mix it with a dead guy clone, which lends a totally different effect. I never blended before this particular beer. I actually got offended when people ( my father-in-law) would come to the house and mix beers, without even trying them separately. How the hell was he going to know what he was getting?
I think if you know your beers, mixing can create some great outcomes. I almost wish I could brew the maple Belgian quad pale ale on its own.
