I decided to brew a Black Butte Porter clone and add blackberries for something new. It turned out fairly well but my gravities were way higher than they should be. My O.G. was predicted (brewtoad) at 1.076 with a final of 1.025. I hit 1.069 and 1.012. So I hit about what was predicted. My problem is that my recipe called for an O.G. of about 1.057 and a final of 1.018. So I ended up with a much higher alcohol content. This was all before I added my blackberries so that wasn't the problem. My recipe is below.

Colorado Two-row Pale 10.5 lb
Briess Wheat Malt, White 1.4 lb
Great Western Crystal 75 0.7 lb
Thomas Fawcett & Sons Chocolate Malt 0.4 lb
Briess Dark Chocolate Malt 0.4 lb
Briess 2-Row Carapils® Malt 0.4 lb

So I am sure that I mashed/sparged improperly. I mashed in a cooler for 1 hour at 156 and sparged for about an hour at 175 until I got 6.5 gallons. What did I do wrong? My local homebrew shop guru couldn't even figure out how to get gravities that low. Should I have only sparged for 45 minutes and then topped up with water to get 6.5 gallons? Any help would be really appreciated. I am stumped.

My first reaction is either your hydrometer is off or your final volume was low. I do not see how you get get that high an OG with roughly 15 lbs of grain. I put the numbers in and I see that you could.

I would just chalk this up to experience learning your setup. You might have to adjust the efficiency setting to match what you get. Do you normally get results like this?

In the grand scheme of things, I would say you are close enough unless you plan on submitting this beer to a competition where they check readings and such.

It was close but it really effected the taste. Just too much alcohol. Ive done plenty of batches with my setup so I dont think it is that. I just dont get why the calculator calls for it to be high but the recipe says it will be low. It was even checked in a clone beer book. I guess I dont know how to get it to be that inefficient.
